Student workshop in Ramallah: Movies as a communication tool
A workshop for the Palestinan students involved in the Youth Dialogue project was conducted in the Evangelical School, on 8th and 10th May 2014
The main topics were:
45 students were divided for two groups for the two days. Faqua girls school and part of Evangelical School for the first day. For the second day AlTira Schools with the other part of Evangelical School .
The youth Palestinian director May Odeh was the trainer who focused in her methodology on:
Representatives from the Ministry of Education visited the workshop on 10th May and listened to the project’s process from students.
Students were able to watch and build their own stories, and were explored to the Palestinian cinema.
As the students were divided into two groups the feedback was different from group to another, the first group from Faqua- Jenin had the workshop in Ramallah which took them 4 hours transportation which make their workshop period less than the other group. The students found that they didn’t gain practical skills in this workshop and some of the students discovered their abilities to express their ideas, but most of the students didn’t found it useful for them. In the other hand students of the second day who had longer period and have the chance to interview a visitor and exchange their experiences they discovered they can catch their own pictures and make their own stories around their daily life. The workshop gave them the chance to meet new students from different school which was the first time in their life.
The workshop gave the students the chance to explore different kind of cinema, it encouraged them to catch their own pictures, and deepening relationship with the viewer they are watching.

- A brief introduction to historical cinema
- A basic understanding of film language before the students start planning their films
- Showing of different sequences from Palestinian films to understand the history of the Palestinian Cinema.
